Cost of Excess Hospitalizations and Emergency Department Visits for the 2006 California Heat Wave

NRDC conducted an economic analysis of the costs to society of the additional hospitalizations and emergency department (ED) visits associated with the summer 2006 California heat wave, and found an estimated $133 million in costs, including direct medical charges and the indirect costs of lost productivity and leisure time.
